Excon
Fontshare · Alisa Nowak · 2021

A six-weight sans serif by Alisa Nowak that pays homage to Roger Excoffon's top-heavy letterforms, with stroke contrast that grows more pronounced from Thin to Black.
About
Designed by Alisa Nowak and released through Indian Type Foundry via Fontshare in 2021, Excon takes its cue from French sans serifs of the 1950s and 60s, particularly the top-heavy construction associated with Roger Excoffon. Stroke contrast is deliberately restrained in the lighter weights and becomes quite marked in the Black, giving the family a range of texture across its six styles. Practical details include a tall x-height, ascenders that exceed the cap height, and proportionally-spaced numerals drawn to cap height.
Classification
Excon draws on French-style sans serifs of the 1950s and 60s, referencing Roger Excoffon's top-heavy letterforms and including stroke contrast that increases through the weight range, placing it closer to humanist sans than geometric or grotesque traditions.
