A geometric sans with roots in the poster lettering of the Montserrat neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, available in nine weights with italics and variable font support.

About

Begun by Julieta Ulanovsky in 2010 as a post-graduate project at the University of Buenos Aires, Montserrat takes its forms from the painted signage and architectural lettering of its namesake neighbourhood. The family has grown through successive collaborations, gaining a full weight range, italics, Cyrillic coverage and variable font axes. Its clean geometry and broad weight range make it a go-to for web, packaging and editorial work, though its ubiquity on Google Fonts limits its distinctiveness.

Classification

Montserrat draws from the geometric poster lettering of the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of the same name, placing it firmly in the geometric sans tradition with clean, near-circular forms and even stroke widths.
