Designed by Inga Plönnigs, a Type & Media graduate from KABK in The Hague, Rowan covers five weights from Light to Bold, each with a matching italic, and is also available as a variable font. Its distinctive chunky serifs and stroke endings maintain legibility at small sizes, while oldstyle figures are set as the default with lining figures available via OpenType. A stylistic set offers ascending lowercase letters without top-serifs, compensated by swelling flairs at the stem tops to preserve typographic colour.
