Segment
Fontshare · Frode Helland · 2021

A caps-only, monospaced display face by Oslo-based designer Frode Helland, built entirely from discrete segments in the manner of LCD electronic displays but with unexpectedly old-fashioned serif detailing.
About
Every letterform is constructed from segments, yet the design departs from a purely utilitarian LCD aesthetic through the inclusion of serifs, a sweeping diagonal tail on the capital R, and a wavy stroke on the top of the 7. The font is caps-only and monospaced, with lowercase slots filled by uppercase duplicates, and includes over a dozen currency symbols alongside two OpenType Stylistic Sets offering alternate punctuation. Despite the late-twentieth-century technology it references, the overall character is eclectic and archaic rather than coldly digital.
Classification
Categorised as Display by the foundry; all letterforms are constructed from discrete segments mimicking LCD electronic display technology, with a monospaced, caps-only structure that places it firmly in the novelty display category.
