About
Originally conceived as a systematic revision of Akzidenz-Grotesk, Gerstner-Programm applied strict mathematical constants to coordinate widths, weights and italics into a coherent family grid. Gerstner defined four gradations each for width and weight, scaled by a factor of 1.25, with italics set at 12 degrees to the vertical. Stephan Müller's digitisation, completed between 2007 and 2017, preserves the structural logic of the original eight styles across Light, Regular, Medium and Bold with matching italics.
Classification
Rooted in Akzidenz-Grotesk, Gerstner-Programm is a systematically expanded grotesque family developed for phototypesetting; its parametric grid of widths and weights places it firmly in the Swiss grotesque tradition.
