A revival of an unpublished 1929 slab serif by Friedrich Wilhelm Kleukens, reconstructed by Reymund Schröder from a low-resolution trial proof and three surviving sketch sheets.
About
Originally designed for D. Stempel AG but never released, the Kleukens-Egyptienne sat unknown in archives until the trial proof was discovered and later considered lost. Schröder's 2018 revival draws on scarce surviving materials to reconstruct a design that departs from conventional Clarendon models by eliminating round bracketing and drop terminals in favour of crisper, more rectilinear forms. The result is five weights with matching italics, occupying an unusual position between book typography and geometric sobriety within the slab serif tradition.

A slab serif revival derived from the Clarendon genre, characterised by sturdy, low-contrast strokes and squared slab serifs without round bracketing, placing it firmly in the egyptienne tradition.
