Beale
Fort Foundry · Amy Hood

A retro display serif drawn from Blues and Rock 'N' Roll record lettering associated with Sun Studio and Stax Records in Memphis, Tennessee.
About
Originally created as custom lettering for a speaking engagement in Memphis with Creative Works, Beale takes its cues from the hand-lettered typography found on Blues and Rock 'N' Roll records from Sun Studio and Stax. Three weights from Light to Black provide range for display and headline use, and the character set includes an extended range of Latin accents and additional fun glyphs. Best suited to music, cultural and event contexts where a sense of American Southern retro identity is wanted.
Classification
Classified as display given its origin as decorative lettering for a specific event and its inspiration from Blues and Rock 'N' Roll record typography; the serif construction has a funky, expressive retro character rather than a text setting intent.
