Jali Arabic
Foundry Five · Mohamad Dakak · 2021

A humanist sans designed for wayfinding, combining Arabic, Latin and Greek in a single family that maintains a native voice across all three scripts.
About
Designed by Mohamad Dakak and originating as a graduation project, Jali Arabic addresses the shortage of Arabic typefaces suited to both design quality and readability. Low-contrast strokes, generous counters and carefully differentiated marks give the family clarity at signage sizes and in demanding typographic environments. The name means 'clear' in Arabic, and the typeface won a TDC Certificate of Typographic Excellence and Granshan first prize in the Arabic and Latin category in 2019.
Classification
Jali Arabic is a humanist sans serif with low-contrast strokes, ample counters and distinguishable letterforms, designed specifically for wayfinding and multi-script harmony across Arabic, Latin and Greek.
