Interstate Mono specimen from Frere-Jones

Christian Schwartz's monospaced reworking of Interstate, commissioned by a bank and preserving the original family's distinctive quirks in fixed-width form.

About

Originally commissioned for a bank requiring monospaced settings, this four-weight family adapts the central weights of Frere-Jones's Interstate grotesque into a fixed-pitch format. Schwartz retained Interstate's characteristic eccentricities drawn from US highway signage while introducing new ones appropriate to the monospaced context. The result sits naturally in technical, data-heavy and editorial applications where the warmth of a humanist grotesque is needed alongside strict column alignment.

Classification

A monospaced adaptation of the Interstate grotesque family, preserving its highway-signage character while enforcing fixed-width metrics throughout all four weights.
