Aro specimen from General Type Studio

A single-weight industrial grotesque offered across five widths from Condensed to Extended, modelled on the heavy display types of 1950s press and advertising.

About

Aro takes its cue from the 'Industrial Grotesk' tradition, the impactful heavy grotesques that bridged metal and wood poster types with phototypesetting for press and advertising. It comes in one weight with a large x-height, spanning five widths from Condensed to Extended, each with a matching italic, giving ten styles in total. Alternate glyphs for the ampersand, M and the g and y are available across all styles via OpenType features.

Classification

Explicitly described as an 'Industrial Grotesk', drawing on the heavy, high-contrast grotesques of the 1950s used in poster and phototypesetting contexts. A single heavy weight across five widths places it firmly in the display grotesque tradition.
