A faithful open-source revival of the Garamond tradition, covering Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek with scholarly rigour.

About

EB Garamond draws from the specimen of Konrad Berner to reconstruct the proportions and spirit of Claude Garamond's sixteenth-century types, delivering a typeface with excellent book and editorial credentials. Its modest x-height and refined serifs reward careful setting in long-form text, particularly in academic publishing, literary fiction, and quality editorial design. The broad script support and open-source licence make it a genuine workhorse for multilingual publications.

Classification

EB Garamond is a meticulous revival of the sixteenth-century Garamond types, with low stroke contrast, bracketed serifs, and a small x-height characteristic of Renaissance text types. It supports Cyrillic and Greek alongside Latin, making it one of the most complete open-source classical revivals available.
