Noto Sans Elymaic addresses the preservation and study of an ancient script attested primarily on coins and rock inscriptions from the Elymais kingdom. Like other scholarly Noto additions, its design prioritises Unicode compliance and legibility over aesthetic ambition. Its audience is almost exclusively epigraphers, ancient historians, and digital humanities researchers.
Classification
Provides digital support for the Elymaic script, an ancient Aramaic-derived writing system used in the Elymais region of modern-day Iran. Letterforms are rendered with the clean, restrained approach characteristic of the Noto project.
