serifhistoric script serif
Noto Serif Ahom specimen from Google Fonts

A utilitarian serif designed solely to bring the endangered Ahom script into digital typesetting.

About

Noto Serif Ahom exists as part of Google's mission to eliminate typographic tofu — the blank boxes that appear when a font lacks a required character. With only a Regular weight, its application is narrow, serving scholars, archivists, and cultural preservation projects working with the historical Ahom language of northeast India.

Classification

Designed specifically to support the Ahom script, a historic abugida used in Assam, India. The single-weight design reflects the limited scope of the script's contemporary use and the preservation mission of the Noto project.
