Grilli started from books printed in Soviet-occupied Estonia and developed Zhurnalnaya Roublennaya into separate Display and Text subfamilies for Latin and Cyrillic. The Text cut handles longer reading while the Display cut keeps the sharper geometric quirks for posters and headlines.
