G2 Erika specimen from Gruppo Due

A paired proportional and monospace sans by Moritz Appich, rooted in typewriter lettering and developed through extended use as a system font.

About

Originally conceived as a semi-condensed monospace referencing historic typewriter lettering, G2 Erika evolved into a dual-family system comprising a proportional sans and its monospace counterpart. The two styles were developed in tandem, allowing each to influence the other, producing a family that carries the technical logic of typewriter type alongside the detail and rhythm of a proportional grotesque. The glyph set extends into mathematical operators and astronomical symbols, added in response to early use in a publication on the logical language LINCOS.

Classification

A proportional sans derived from a typewriter monospace origin, sharing geometric and technical characteristics with grotesque sans-serifs while maintaining the neutral rhythm of a proportional design.
