Hoefler & Co · Jonathan Hoefler · 1995

A heavy display face by Jonathan Hoefler that draws on the engraved Greek lettering of nineteenth-century broadsides, part of the Proteus Project alongside Saracen, Leviathan and Ziggurat.
About
A display family by Jonathan Hoefler released in 1995 as part of the four-family Proteus Project. Acropolis takes its cues from the engraved Greek style that appeared on nineteenth-century broadsides, architectural inscriptions and theatrical bills, with crisp inline detail across three heavy weights. Built to be set large on posters, packaging and editorial mastheads, and designed to interchange freely with the Saracen, Leviathan and Ziggurat sibling families on shared widths and weights.
Classification
H&Co classify Acropolis as a display face rooted in the engraved Greek lettering of nineteenth-century broadsides and architectural inscriptions. One of the four families in the Proteus Project, alongside Saracen, Leviathan and Ziggurat, sharing widths and weights with its siblings.
