Chronicle Text
Hoefler & Co · Hoefler & Co · 2002

A graded transitional text serif from H&Co, drawn in four grades so newspaper and magazine designers can hold a consistent colour across different papers and printing conditions.
About
A transitional text serif from Hoefler & Co, designed to anchor editorial systems alongside Chronicle Display. Four grades, G1 to G4, progressively thicken the strokes so the same design can be tuned to different papers, inks and presses without changing weight on the page. Four weights with matching italics across each grade, plus Screensmart and Office cuts for screens and documents. Long body text in magazines and newspapers is the home setting, where its Scotch Roman roots read as familiar without being nostalgic.
Classification
H&Co classify Chronicle Text as a workhorse newspaper and magazine text serif, drawn in four optical grades so designers can compensate for different printing conditions, papers and inks while keeping a consistent colour on the page.
