Cyclone specimen from Hoefler & Co

A high-contrast inline didone display from Jonathan Hoefler, built in layered cuts that revive the shaded letterforms of nineteenth-century playbills and banknotes.

About

A display family by Jonathan Hoefler that draws on the high-contrast, inline didones used on nineteenth-century playbills, currency engraving and certificates. Cyclone is built as a layered set so designers can stack colours and shadows to recreate the chromatic look of period letterpress. Intended for posters, packaging and editorial work where the typography is meant to be the ornament, not the messenger.

Classification

H&Co classify Cyclone as a multi-layered inline display, drawing on the high-contrast didone shaded letterforms that decorated nineteenth-century playbills, certificates and bank notes. Designed to be combined in layered colour settings.
