Didot specimen from Hoefler & Co

Jonathan Hoefler's optically-sized Didot, originally drawn for Harper's Bazaar, with seven masters tuned from caption to display.

About

An optically-sized Didot by Jonathan Hoefler, commissioned by Fabien Baron for the 1992 relaunch of Harper's Bazaar and released as a retail family afterwards. Seven masters tuned to specific sizes, from six-point text to ninety-six-point display, redistribute the contrast and hairline weight so the design holds together from caption to cover. Three weights with italics. The family is widely identified with fashion editorial and luxury branding because of the Bazaar work and the legions of mastheads that followed it.

Classification

H&Co classify their Didot as a multi-master didone built specifically for editorial use, with seven optical masters that adjust contrast and detail by size. Originally drawn for the relaunch of Harper's Bazaar under Fabien Baron.
