Historical Allsorts
Hoefler & Co · Jonathan Hoefler · 1993

A four-face historical revival set from Jonathan Hoefler, gathering blackletter, uncial, civilite and fraktur into a single curiosity package for period-correct display work.
About
A small set of historical display revivals by Jonathan Hoefler, gathered into a single release. Historical Allsorts pulls together four self-contained faces drawn from different periods of pre-industrial typography: a civilite cursive, an early uncial roman, an English textura blackletter and a fraktur. None is meant as a working text face. They sit in editorial illustration, packaging and book design where designers want a historically literate counterpoint to a modern serif or sans without commissioning custom lettering.
Classification
H&Co package Historical Allsorts as a collection of four self-contained historical revival faces: a blackletter (St Augustin Civilite), an early roman (Great Primer Uncials), an eighteenth-century script (English Textura) and a fraktur. Sold together as a curiosity set rather than as a coordinated system.
