Requiem
Hoefler & Co · Jonathan Hoefler · 1992

A Renaissance humanist serif after Arrighi's 1523 writing manual, with chancery italics, three optical sizes and a full set of ornaments.
About
A Renaissance serif by Jonathan Hoefler, drawn from an illustration in Ludovico Vicentino degli Arrighi's 1523 writing manual Il Modo de Temperare le Penne. The display roman and small caps take their structure from Arrighi's elegant rendering of the classical alphabet, the lowercase is an invention in the same spirit, and the italic returns to the full-blooded chancery cursive for which Arrighi is most famous. Each style is provided in three optical sizes (Fine, Text and Display) to preserve delicate features at every scale, and Requiem Ornaments includes two decorative cartouche alphabets and a set of printers' flowers. Italic ligature sets and decorative alternates make it suited to book typography, editorial features and identity work in a humanist register.
