A display serif by Adam Katyi, revived from a c.1906 Lettergieterij Amsterdam specimen and a 1904 prayer-book, with geometric details introduced in a thorough 2018 redraw.
About
The Medium weight originates in Halfvette Aldine, discovered in a Butzon and Bercker prayer-book set at 24pt, and developed through several years of revision at Type and Media before Katyi settled on a final direction. The 2018 redesign brought in geometric character details — horizontal terminals on the 2 and 7, vertical tails on the a, t and R — while the true italic lowercase retains a hand-written construction with inbound curves on rounded letters. Serif heights remain consistent across all six weights, and the family is recommended at 24pt minimum, with a text optical size planned for a future expansion.
Classification
A revival of a late nineteenth-century serif with geometric detailing introduced in the 2018 redraw; the horizontal strokes on numerals and distinctive tail forms place it firmly in the display serif tradition with humanist-italic construction in the cursive cuts.
