About
Designed by Adam Katyi, Chia draws from the logic of old traffic and construction pixel screens, translating their grid constraints into a typographic system made wholly of circles. Two structural versions define the family: Chia 5, built on a five-dot grid for a raw, minimal quality, and Chia 7, offering a seven-dot height with greater legibility. Six visual steps per version, numbered 20 through 200, vary dot size rather than stroke weight, so at 200 the circles overlap into dense, sculptural masses.
Classification
Chia is a display typeface constructed entirely from circles arranged on a dot grid, referencing pixel and traffic screen aesthetics. Its modular, grid-based construction and purely experimental character place it firmly in the display category with a dot/pixel subcategory.
