sans-serifgrotesqueitalic
Riegla specimen from Interval Type

A contrasted grotesque with 19th-century roots, offering three sets of stylistic alternates and coverage across Extended Latin and Cyrillic.

About

Drawing from early sans-serif models such as Figgins Sans and Breite Grotesk, Riegla retains the contrast and character of pre-rationalisation grotesques rather than smoothing them into neutral utility. Ten styles span Light to Black with matching italics, and three stylistic alternate sets, labelled Jazz, Classic and individual glyph swaps, give designers control over its personality. Designed as a companion to the fusion serif family Riegraf, both sharing formal commonalities for mixed-family typesetting.

Classification

Described explicitly as a non-neutral grotesk drawing from 19th-century sans-serif designs such as Figgins Sans and Breite Grotesk, with upright contrast reminiscent of pre-rationalisation grotesques rather than the neutralised Swiss tradition.
