On a mission to create the world's biggest index of typefaces from the world's best type foundries

serifneoclassical serifitalic
Garvis specimen from JTD Type

A neoclassical text serif drawing on the Dutch Fleischmann tradition, built for legibility on screen and at small sizes with full IPA coverage.

About

Positioned between Dutch Baroque and neoclassical type, Garvis carries subtle irregularities at display sizes that recall metal type printing, smoothing to a warm, even texture at text sizes. Four weights from Book to Bold each have a matching italic, and the family covers all contemporary Latin-based orthographies alongside a complete IPA character set. Dan Reynolds selected it for Typographica's Favourite Typefaces of 2012.

Classification

Garvis bridges Dutch Baroque type in the Fleischmann tradition with neoclassical proportions, featuring modulated contrast and refined letterforms suited to both text and display use.
