Each of the five fonts in the family corresponds to a structural layer: fill, bricks, mortar bricks, courses, and mortar courses, reproducing the 15-course grid of masonry lettering developed from over 150 archival photographs and two dozen engineering drawings. The fonts work horizontally and vertically, with OpenType vertical forms available via Stylistic Set 2, allowing signs, stacks and typographic structures to run in either direction. Proportions and mortar-joint thickness have been optically adjusted for screen and print, extending the system's utility beyond purely decorative applications.
