JT Percy
July Type · Maya Nakanishi

A serif rooted in stone-carved letterforms and the inscriptional work of Percy John Delf Smith, with extensive swashes and ligatures across Latin and Cyrillic.
About
Developed through archival research and cemetery visits, the typeface draws its uppercase proportions from second-century incised inscriptions and its lowercase from Renaissance humanist forms. An extensive range of swashes and ligatures opens up expressive typographic possibilities uncommon in a single-weight release. Cyrillic support was developed in collaboration with Bulgarian designer Pavel Pavlov, ensuring tonal consistency between the two scripts.
Classification
Rooted in stone-carved and incised letterforms, with uppercase proportions drawn from second-century Roman inscriptions and lowercase from Renaissance humanist forms; the extensive swash and ligature system gives it a strongly inscriptional, calligraphic character.
