Rather than treating Times New Roman purely as a typographic form to be refined, Belligerent Times begins with the word embedded in its name, reading 'times' as historical moment and social circumstance rather than merely newspaper heritage. Released as a single Semibold weight in OTF, WOFF and WOFF2 formats, it covers Latin script across Western European, Central European and South Eastern European character sets. The conceptual framing, paired with specimen texts by Chantal Akerman and Joan Didion, positions it squarely in editorial and artistic contexts where typographic familiarity is a point of departure rather than an end.
Classification
Derived from Times New Roman, itself a transitional serif commissioned for The Times of London in 1931; Belligerent Times maintains the transitional serif structure while recontextualising it conceptually.
