JL Impact Nieuw
Jung-Lee Type Foundry · Jungmyung Lee · 2017

A living reinterpretation of Geoffrey Lee's 1965 Impact that grows and mutates across yearly releases, adding cursive strokes, ink-traps and variable widths to the original's rigid compressed form.
About
Jungmyung Lee treats Impact not as a fixed artefact but as an evolving entity, releasing new cuts from 2012 through to 2024 that each reframe the typeface's character. Where the original leaned on strict condensed uniformity, the Nieuw versions introduce flowery cursive lines, ink-traps and width variation that give the family a personality ranging from blunt to buoyant. Each dated subfamily carries its own italics, making the collection a kind of typographic biography rather than a conventional type family.
Classification
A reinterpretation of Impact, one of the most condensed and high-contrast display faces in the Latin canon; Jungmyung Lee's additions of cursive lines, ink-traps and width variations push it firmly into expressive display territory.
