Released in 2006 by Tim Ahrens, JAF Zalamander draws on blackletter, graffiti writing, Constructivism and Art Deco to produce something dynamic and visually distinct from orthodox textura or fraktur revivals. The family runs across six weights from Extralight to Extrabold, and a parallel Caps subfamily provides letter variations specifically designed to sit well together in uppercase-only settings. Cyrillic is included in all weights, and the Caps version is available as a free download.
Classification
The typeface is rooted in blackletter tradition but fused with graffiti, Art Deco and Constructivist influences, making it a distinctly contemporary and display-oriented blackletter.
