Firdevs
Kerns & Cairns · Fevzi Yazıcı, Dyana Weissman · 2023

A single-weight serif drawn entirely by hand in a Turkish prison cell by award-winning visual journalist Fevzi Yazıcı, then digitised by Dyana Weissman.
About
Conceived by Yazıcı during his imprisonment at Silivri with only pencil and paper, the typeface realises a long-held ambition to design letterforms from scratch. Named after his wife, it combines elegance with legibility across display and text sizes, and has been used in exhibition posters and catalogues. All profits from the font go to the Yazıcı family.
Classification
Firdevs shows elegant, hand-drawn letterform origins with organic stroke contrast and warmth consistent with humanist serif traditions, suited to both display and text use.
