Snapshot
Kilotype · Selma Losch · 2022

A uniwidth slab serif by Selma Losch that deliberately subverts uniform spacing by letting individual letters vary dramatically in width while keeping all weights metrically identical.
About
Released in 2022 as part of Kilotype's Concept Fonts series, Snapshot draws on 19th-century display slab tradition while introducing a distinctive quirk: narrow M and W sit alongside wide i and r, creating word shapes that read almost monospaced without the mechanical regularity that implies. Because all ten weights share the same character widths, swapping weights triggers no text reflow, opening up animation and layout tricks unavailable in conventional weight-variable families. Selma Losch frames this as letters working cooperatively rather than uniformly, producing visual tension that holds the eye without collapsing into chaos.
Classification
Snapshot is explicitly described in the lineage of 19th-century slab serif display types, with prominent serifs used to grab attention, placing it firmly in the slab category with a display orientation.
