Maelstrom
Klim Type Foundry · Kris Sowersby · 2014

A single-weight reversed-stress slab serif with razor-thin spacing, leaning into a perverse Italian-genre charm for display sizes.
About
A reversed-stress slab by Kris Sowersby with weight pushed onto the horizontals and razor-thin spacing forming narrow strips of light through the black mass. Released as a single Bold cut, no italic. The sister face to Maelstrom Sans inside the Maelstrom collection, and a deliberate engagement with what Klim describe as a perpetual typographic outsider, never fashionable yet never abandoned.
Classification
Klim classifies it as a Reversed-Stress Slab Serif; razor-thin spacing forms narrow strips of light through the black mass. Sits in the Maelstrom collection alongside the sans-serif Maelstrom Sans.
