About
Released in 2020, Zukunft comes in three styles: a Regular for body copy, an Italic with capital swashes to restore some warmth, and a Display cut with heightened contrast for headlines and posters. The design retains traditional didone proportions whilst pushing the letterforms toward something more mechanically precise, with strict horizontal lines and sharp triangular serifs throughout. Extensive OpenType support includes stylistic alternates, contextual swashes, oldstyle figures and seven stylistic sets, with coverage across Latin Extended-A and Cyrillic for up to 250 languages.
Classification
The foundry explicitly describes Zukunft as an homage to classic didone typefaces, featuring high contrast between thick and thin strokes, triangular serifs and strict horizontal lines that give it a geometric, digitally inflected character.
