On a mission to create the world's biggest index of typefaces from the world's best type foundries

sans-serifgrotesquecondenseditalic
Polaris specimen from Labor and Wait

A teutonic grotesque in the tradition of Helvetica and Univers, originally released in 2004 as part of the broader Galaxie family of families.

About

Originally released as Galaxie Polaris in 2004, the typeface was conceived as the reference point for a larger "family of families" including the script Cassiopeia and the serif Copernicus. It follows the unadorned modernist tradition of late-19th-century German grotesks and was an early multilingual design, with version 4 extending coverage to Cyrillic. Five weights from Light to Heavy are available, each with a matching italic, plus a condensed sub-family.

Classification

Described explicitly as a teutonic grotesk following Helvetica, Univers and Unica, with roots in late-19th-century German grotesks. Unadorned, modernist construction with no decorative elements.
