Flac 30 specimen from Lettermin

An ultra-compressed display sans in 30 styles, including a 'Retalic' variant, inspired by old film poster lettering and mid-century Blue Note Records sleeve design.

About

Starting from a fixed ultra-compressed Thin skeleton, each heavier weight grows the letterforms outward rather than inward, keeping counters consistent across the range and producing a silhouette unlike conventional weight progressions. The family draws on the visual language of old movie poster type and Reid Miles's Blue Note Records sleeves, and was later used in a newspaper weekend supplement redesign before reaching its definitive form in 2024. At 30 styles plus a variable font, it includes upright, italic and a distinctive Retalic cut across ten weights, with thirteen stylistic sets, small caps, and a broad Latin Extended character set.

Classification

An ultra-compressed sans whose letterforms grow outward from a fixed Thin skeleton as weight increases, producing an unusual visual rhythm rooted in film poster and mid-century jazz record sleeve typography. The extreme compression and distinctive weight progression place it firmly in the display category.
