Adelia specimen from Letters from Sweden

A flare serif drawing on Nordic arts and classicism of the early 1900s, loaded with quirky alternates and ligatures across two weights.

About

Designed by Fredrik Gruber, Göran Söderström and Léo Guibert at Letters from Sweden, Adelia takes its cues from architecture, painting and books of Nordic classicism, with a particular debt to Walter Käch's typographic poster for a 1950 Contemporary Swiss Arts exhibition. Two weights, Light and Regular, carry an extensive character set with OpenType alternates across eleven stylistic sets, discretionary ligatures and oldstyle numerals. Vietnamese support was added in 2026, broadening the family's Latin coverage considerably.

Classification

Described explicitly as a flare serif, the design draws on Nordic classicism of the early 1900s with organic, romantic characteristics that bridge transitional and humanist serif traditions.
