Gothia Serif Text specimen from Letters from Sweden

A text-optimised spin-off of Gothia Serif by Göran Söderström, adapted from a newspaper typeface with Dutch old-style roots for small-size legibility in books and editorial design.

About

Originally commissioned by Swedish designer Nina Ulmaja for a book project, Gothia Serif Text widens the proportions, reduces stroke contrast and raises the x-height of Gothia Serif to serve continuous reading at small sizes. The parent family was designed for the redesigned Göteborgs-Posten newspaper, drawing on historical Dutch models by Hendrik van den Keere and Christoffel van Dijck alongside contemporary work by Gerard Unger. Two weights, Regular and Book, each with an italic, keep the family compact and purposeful.

Classification

Gothia Serif Text draws explicitly on Dutch old-style models from Hendrik van den Keere and Christoffel van Dijck, with a text-optimised adaptation featuring reduced contrast and elevated x-height suited to continuous reading.
