Ivar Soft specimen from Letters from Sweden

A rounded cut of Ivar Headline, originally commissioned by Pentagram, softening the transitional serif construction with rounded terminals for a friendlier tone.

About

Ivar Soft takes the forms of Ivar Headline and rounds the terminals, lending the transitional serif warmth without sacrificing its structural rigour. The family was designed by Göran Söderström with Greek characters by Panos Haratzopoulos, and covers Latin and Greek scripts across four weights with matching italics. Originally a bespoke commission from Pentagram, the cut is now available for retail alongside the broader Ivar family, which spans Text, Headline, Display and Fine optical sizes.

Classification

Ivar is explicitly influenced by Times and mid-20th century text faces rooted in 16th–17th century classics, placing it firmly in the transitional serif tradition. The Soft cut adds rounded terminals for warmth while retaining the underlying construction.
