Lab Grotesque
Letters from Sweden · Stockholm Design Lab, Göran Söderström, Panos Haratzopoulos · 2015

A six-weight grotesque designed with Stockholm Design Lab, drawing on turn-of-the-century grotesks rather than the neutrality of Helvetica.
About
Designed by Göran Söderström with Stockholm Design Lab and released in 2015, it is built around curved strokes that straighten towards the terminals, a detail that gives it quiet character without ornament. Stylistic sets allow switching between square and rounded dots, and the family covers Latin (including Vietnamese), Cyrillic and Greek with Cyrillic consultation from Maria Doreuli. A companion monospaced family, Lab Grotesque Mono, extends the system for code or tabular work.
Classification
Explicitly positioned against Helvetica's rigidity in favour of earlier turn-of-the-century grotesks and gothics; curved strokes straightening to terminals is a classic grotesque structural trait.
