Letters from Sweden · Claes Nordenstam, Göran Söderström · 2019

A geometric stencil display face originally drawn by Claes Nordenstam in 1976 and revived by Letters from Sweden in 2019, with surprising letterforms built by strategically removing parts of the glyphs.
About
Originally titled Quickstep, the face was drawn in 1976 by Claes Nordenstam under the influence of his tutor Erik Lindegren and sat undiscovered on paper for over four decades before Letters from Sweden digitised it. The design shares conceptual territory with Aldo Novarese's Stop and Othmar Motter's Motter Tektura, but its range of three weights from Thin to Bold and broader glyph coverage make it more adaptable than its peers. The stencil geometry carries an unmistakable 1970s rhythm that works across posters, editorial headings and identity work that calls for strong visual character.
Classification
A stencil display face built from dynamic geometric forms with deliberate counters removed, placing it firmly in the display category with a geometric stencil subcategory, akin to Novarese's Stop and Motter Tektura.
