Ginka specimen from Lift Type

A French grotesque by Julie Soudanne with pronounced ink traps, rebounded curves and enough character to work at both text sizes and large display settings.

About

Designed by Julie Soudanne and released in 2023, Ginka comes in five weights from Light to Bold, each with a matching italic, totalling ten styles. The design combines deep ink traps and pinched strokes with quirky punctuation and resilient curves, giving it a dual personality that holds up in body text whilst asserting itself at poster scale. Broad Latin Extended language support covers over 45 languages across European scripts.

Classification

Ginka is described explicitly as a grotesk, with pronounced ink traps, rebounded curves and a pinched contrast that sit firmly within the grotesque sans-serif tradition rather than geometric or humanist variants.
