LL Capital specimen from Lineto

A single-weight titling serif by Pablo Desportes that layers a new take on ITC Grouch and the Caslon reappropriations of 1970s New York onto a screen-capable display face.

About

Drawing on ITC Grouch, Benguiat Caslon and Caslon No.224, the design balances extreme stroke contrast and diamond-shaped top serifs against the legibility demands of digital screens. An 18-degree italic was devised from scratch using a systematic slanting approach, in the absence of italic precedents among the 1970s display Caslons. Originally sketched for a film title sequence in 2022, it was refined over three years before its release in 2025.

Classification

A titling serif with extreme stroke contrast, diamond-shaped top serifs and an 18-degree italic slant, drawing directly from ITC Grouch and the Caslon reappropriations of 1970s New York. Its single weight and headline-first design place it firmly in the display category.
