LL Geigy Duplex Var
Lineto · Robert Huber · 2024

A uniwidth variable font by Robert Huber that keeps glyph spacing fixed across its full weight and slant range, preventing text reflow when axes change.
About
Based on LL Geigy, this variable font applies the duplex model — a concept from hot-metal typesetting — to a contemporary variable format, ensuring glyphs occupy identical space from Light to Black and from Roman to Italic. That fixed-width behaviour makes it particularly suited to screen interfaces where weight or style transitions occur on hover, and to animated type where gradual axis changes can produce optical effects without layout shifts. Font engineering and mastering was handled by Alphabet, Berlin.
Classification
Described by Lineto as an eccentric sans serif; the duplex variable format and geometric-yet-quirky character set it apart from conventional grotesque or humanist classifications.
