LL Le Corbusier specimen from Lineto

A family of four stencil fonts redrawn from antique zinc lettering stencils, associated with the architectural drawings of Le Corbusier and widely used across 20th-century Europe.

About

Originally digitised in the 1990s and early 2000s, the family was fully redrawn by Chiachi Chao and re-released in spring 2024 across three styles: a standard stencil, the Oldface cut associated with Le Corbusier's own architectural plans, and a Cameo version based on the physical silhouette of the original zinc stencils. Each style is manually kerned with an expanded glyph set, balancing refinement against the rugged irregularity of the source material. The result sits well in editorial, architectural and typographic work that calls for a stencil with genuine historical grounding.

Classification

Derived from antique zinc lettering stencils common in European hardware and art supply shops throughout the 20th century, the family belongs firmly in the display category as a stencil type. The rugged, interrupted letterforms are characteristic of the stencil display tradition.
