Superstudio
Lineto · Jonathan Hares · 2003

A digital revival of the IBM Selectric's obscure 12 Dual Gothic typeface, originally drawn for signage at the 2003 Design Museum exhibition 'Superstudio: Life without Objects'.
About
Drawn by Jonathan Hares from a single sample of the IBM Selectric's 12 Dual Gothic ball font, one of the less commercially successful of the golfball typewriter series, the design was first applied at exhibition scale before being refined for publication. A light and bold weight were added in a later round of redrawing, extending the original single-weight adaptation. The typeface carries the terse, institutional quality of its typewriter origins, making it suited to editorial and archival contexts where that weight of reference matters.
Classification
A monospaced sans derived from the IBM Selectric Typewriter's 12 Dual Gothic ball font; the fixed-pitch structure and upright letterforms are characteristic of typewriter-origin monospace designs.
