Drawing on Buddhist scriptures presumed to have been woodblock-printed in the early 20th century, Banya Std balances the fluid character of brushwork with the sharp, stencil-like qualities of carved wood. Individual letterforms handle the tension differently: the ieung and yu characters lean into brush expressiveness, while digeut and mieum carry a slight stencil quality that evokes the cut. Six weights run from Light through Black, with the distinctive carved and calligraphic details becoming more pronounced as weight increases; the Black is specifically designed for titling use.
