serifrenaissance serifitalic
Messina Serif specimen from Luzi Type

A French Renaissance-inspired serif with a complete weight range from Thin to Bold, available as static and variable fonts.

About

Part of the broader Messina type system alongside a sans and a modern variant, Messina Serif draws on French Renaissance proportions and 17th-century letterform traditions to produce a text face suited to both editorial and longer-form setting. Twelve styles run across six weights from Thin to Bold, each with a matching italic, and the family ships as two variable fonts covering the full upright and italic axes. Language support spans Latin Complete, covering most of Europe, the Americas, Africa and Vietnamese.

Classification

Inspired by French Renaissance proportions and 17th-century design traditions, Messina Serif sits within the humanist or renaissance serif category, characterised by graceful letterforms, moderate contrast and classical construction updated for contemporary use.
