An old-style serif drawn from a 1690 Plantin Press printing, interpreting early Garamond and Caslon forms for contemporary use across two optical-size subfamilies.

The design takes its cue from a historic typeface found in the Martyrologium Romanum, printed by the Plantin Press in 1690, translating that source material's classical warmth into a refined digital family. Portonovo is optimised for display and general body use, while Portonovo Text handles small sizes below 8pt. Both subfamilies span Book to Black with matching italics, and the family is also available as a variable font with separate weight and optical-size axes. OpenType features include small caps, oldstyle figures and swashes.
Classification
Inspired by early Garamond and Caslon models via a 1690 Plantin Press source, Portonovo is firmly in the old-style serif tradition with classical proportions and humanist letterform characteristics.
