sans-serifneo-grotesqueitalic
Walney specimen from Luzi Type

A neo-grotesque sans with oval curves and softer proportions that give it a springy, animated quality while staying close to the neutral grotesque model.

About

Built on neo-grotesque proportions, Walney departs from strict circular geometry in favour of oval curves and more vertically stretched, rounded letterforms, particularly in the o and n. Moderate stroke contrast adds energy, and details such as the rounded leg of the R and the shaped upper bowl of the B introduce quiet character without compromising legibility. Its tight default spacing makes it assertive at medium sizes, and a variable font covers a Light-to-Black weight axis alongside a backslanted-to-slanted axis.

Classification

Walney is explicitly described as sitting close to the neo-grotesque model, with oval rather than circular curves and softened details that give it a warmer, more animated rhythm than a strict neutral grotesque.
